The days are getting longer, the sun is showing up and showing out more often and we're rapidly approaching Daylight Savings Time. Spring is in the air and that means it's the perfect time to check in on your routine!
Here are a few points that we would encourage you to give attention to:
Clean out your products
It's important to clean out old products so that you can start or continue your hair routine in the healthiest way possible. Our strong suggestions towards this are:
🌿Check the expiration date. Expiration dates are keys to a successful cleanup because after a product expires, its active ingredients and preservatives become inactive. That means you're not giving your curls the moisture or protection they need even though you're applying product.
🌿If the texture is different than when you first brought it, it’s likely off and should be tossed in the trash. For example, when a once-creamy product looks discolored and clumpy, it's rancid.
🌿Your nose knows. If the smell is gone, you know it’s wrong!
🌿If you just don’t use it, but it’s within the expiration date, the texture is good and it smells on point, pass it off to a friend. No need to keep what you don’t use; no need to toss your coins in the trash either.
A Clean Scalp is a happy scalp
Making sure that your scalp is happy is the foundation for healthy curls. Here are some tips on getting the healthiest, cleanest hair and scalp:
🌿Don’t irritate your scalp unnecessarily. Rather than scratching, massage during your wash. As well, you don't want to make your scalp susceptible to infections.
🌿Change up your shampoo when you need to. For example, your winter shampoo might be moisturizing while your summer shampoo might need more clarifying ingredients. Also, consider this when you're cleaning out your products.
🌿Take your time with it. Make sure you’re getting exactly what every curl needs by applying thoroughly and using enough shampoo. We also recommend using a Shampoo Friend to aid with detangling and keeping water in your strands.
🌿Keep it cool. Hot water might feel good, but it removes moisture. Warm water while shampooing and cool water after conditioning will better support your moisture goals.
🌿Use the right shampoo. Your hair type should inform your shampoo choice. Other than that, your choice should be sulfate-free and moisturizing.
Our shampoo of choice you ask? Charlotte Noire Curl Shampoo of course! Delivering shine, strength and detangling properties.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
How much water have you had today? We can't stress it enough, hydrate your body! Water is life and the wonders it does for every part of your body is unmatched. Your hair and skin (which is the largest organ of the body by the way) will thank you with their healthy elasticity and glow. So please, if you don't already have one, make a plan to increase your water intake in the way that works best for you.
